# ExpiWell

> ExpiWell is an experience sampling method (ESM) and ecological momentary assessment (EMA) platform that lets researchers design, schedule, and run real-time studies — with no coding — to capture participants' experiences as they happen in everyday life. It is used by 6,300+ researchers worldwide and is third-party verified HIPAA and GDPR compliant. Built by researchers (co-founded by Purdue University's Dr. Louis Tay) for behavioral, health, clinical, and organizational research.

## What ExpiWell does

- ExpiWell replaces retrospective surveys with repeated, in-the-moment data collection in participants' natural settings, reducing recall bias and capturing within-person change over time.
- No-code survey builder with 12 question types (including multiple choice, slider, counter, matrix, grid/affect grid, and text).
- Flexible scheduling: signal-contingent (random), time-contingent (fixed), and event-contingent (participant-initiated) sampling, with notifications that auto-adjust when participants change time zones.
- Free iOS and Android participant apps with offline data capture; mobile apps localized in English, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and Hebrew.
- Real-time researcher dashboards for response rates, completion times, and notification tracking.
- Anonymized participant compensation, branching/conditional logic, geolocation capture, multimedia capture (photo, video, voice), and wearable/passive data (e.g., Fitbit, Apple Watch, BACtrack).
- Supports advanced designs: intensive longitudinal/burst designs, just-in-time adaptive interventions (JITAI), and participant-community engagement (feed and messenger).
